Looking for a structured, engaging martial arts program that builds discipline, confidence, and physical strength? The Brad Akins YMCA Martial Arts Program offers Jiu-Jitsu-based training for youth and adults, blending mindfulness, self-defense, and full-body fitness.

Our 7-week sessions provide the opportunity to progress through belt levels under the guidance of our expert Sensei. Classes focus on technique, self-discipline, and skill development in a supportive environment - perfect for beginners and experienced martial artists alike!

Class Schedule & Age Groups

Youth Martial Arts (Ages 7-12)

  • Mondays | 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
  • Wednesdays | 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Teen & Adult Martial Arts (Ages 13+)

  • Mondays | 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
  • Wednesdays | 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Session Dates:

  • Mondays: March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 | April 14, 21
  • Wednesdays: March 5, 12, 19, 26 | April 5, 16, 23
  • No classes during Spring Break (April 7-11).

Program Details

What to Wear

Participants should wear comfortable athletic clothing for the first session. As they continue, a uniform (gi) and protective gear will be required. No shoes are allowed on the mat - socks are optional.

Additional Fees

  • Uniform Fee: $35
  • Protective Gear: $60
  • Belt Progression Fee: $10
    (Prices are subject to change)

Competitions & Demonstrations

While we do not participate in official competitions, our students will perform demonstrations at YMCA events, showcasing their progress and skills.

Women’s Self-Defense Course

Join Sensei Samantha for an empowering Women’s Self-Defense Class designed to teach awareness, resourcefulness, and effective defense tactics. This hands-on training will provide you with real-world strategies to enhance your personal safety.

Mom & Me Class:

In this high-energy class, moms and daughters team up to learn practical self-defense techniques, build situational awareness, and grow in confidence together. Guided by our expert female instructors in a safe and supportive environment, you'll master the basics of striking, blocking, escapes, and verbal defense through interactive drills and playful team challenges.

No experience needed. Fruit tray and charcuterie board provided for snacks. Bring your water bottle!

ONLY $15 per person for members & $25 per person for non-members.

 

 

College class:
Headed to college? Take more than just your books, bring confidence, courage, and a solid self-defense mindset with you.

Our College Bound Women's Self-Defense Class is designed specifically for young women preparing for campus life. This empowering session goes beyond the basics, giving you real-world tools to stay safe, stay strong, and own your space wherever college life takes you.

Taught by our experienced female instructor, this high-impact class covers:
Effective physical defense techniques (strikes, escapes, and blocks)
Situational awareness and how to avoid danger before it starts
Verbal boundary-setting and confidence-building strategies
Campus safety tips tailored to dorms, parties, walking alone, rideshares, and more

Whether you're heading to a big university or a small campus, this class will leave you feeling empowered, informed, and unstoppable.

This is more than self-defense it's self-confidence in action. Bring your questions, bring your energy, and walk away ready to take on the next chapter of life, fierce and fearless.
