FAQ

How is the YMCA different from a gym?

The Y is a leading 501(C)(3) nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. The YMCA of Georgia’s Piedmont comprises of 2 locations, The Brad Akins branch in Winder, GA and the Bell Family branch in Hartwell, GA, engages approximately 10,000 men, women and children annually.

I already pay membership dues; why should I give money to the YMCA?

Membership dues cover the cost of maintaining and operating our facilities. At the Y, no child, family or adult is turned away because of inability to pay. Donated dollars are used to provide membership and program assistance for individuals and families who could not afford to participate otherwise.
