YMCA SOCCER FAQ’s

1. What does my registration pay for?
A soccer jersey and a pair of soccer socks are included in your registration cost.

2. What does my player need to wear/bring for soccer practices and games?
Players need to wear athletic clothing for both practices and games. Players are responsible for purchasing their own cleats, shin guards and black shorts for the season. If players own a soccer ball, they are welcome to bring it to the Y, but please write the player’s name on the ball.

3. How long is the season?
Soccer seasons at the YMCA typically last about 12 weeks, depending on weather and the number of teams in the league.

4. Where are the games?
Itty Bitty, U6, U8 and U10 games will all be played here at the Bell Family YMCA. U12 and U15 teams will play at the Bell Family YMCA and will also travel to Madison County, Athens YMCA, possibly Winder YMCA and other surrounding soccer leagues.

5a. Can I request a coach and/or another player to be on my team?
There is a space available on the soccer registration form to request a certain coach and also to request that another player be put on the same team as your child. This is for Itty Bitty and U6 ages ONLY. While we do our best to honor these requests, they are not always guaranteed. The U8, U10, U12 and 15U age groups will be put into a player draft, so requests are not accepted.

5b. How are the coaches selected?
Great question! All of our coaches are dedicated volunteers. Some are YMCA staff members, others are parents who help coach their children’s teams, and many are community members who share our Y values. To ensure your child’s safety, every coach undergoes a background check and drug testing.

6. When are practices and games?
Practice days are any weekday and can be scheduled between 5-7pm. Game days can be any day besides Sunday. All schedules depend on number of teams and field availability.

7. Can I request a specific practice day and time?
We do not accept practice day or time requests. Signing up for YMCA soccer is a commitment to getting your child to their assigned day and time for practices and games.

8. What is the refund policy?
To view our refund policy, please see the YMCA Participant Waiver form attached to the registration form.

9. What is the weather policy?
Soccer will be played in rain or shine. If there is thunder or lightning, games will be suspended for 30 minutes from the last lightning/thunder observed. In extreme heat, water breaks will be scheduled during games by the referees.

10. How can I stay up to date on YMCA happenings?
